Translation

It is reported on the authority of Ibn ‘Umar (رضي الله عنهما) that he said:
“Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said: ‘Islam is built upon five (pillars):

  1. To testify that none is worthy of worship but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
  2. To perform the prayers (Salah).
  3. To give Zakah (charity).
  4. To fast in the month of Ramadan.
  5. To perform Hajj (pilgrimage) to the House (Kaaba).’”

On the authority of ‘Umar ibn Abi Salamah (رضي الله عنه), he said:

“I was a boy under the care of Allah’s Messenger ﷺ, and my hand used to move around the plate (while eating). So Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said to me:

‘OH boy! Say the name of Allah (Bismillah), eat with your right hand, and eat from what is in front of you.’

Since then, that has been the way I eat.”
